Ok Ill update to 12.3 tonight Im still struggling with with frames, not to bad but I think there is still some to be gained. My system is
i7 OC to 4ghz, 2 5870's x fired 12 gigs 1600mhz ram and eyefinity I have to keep things on medium and sun and hdr off among other things. It seems ATI cards have problems with rfactor at the moment..

You've probably already tried this, but have you tried running on only one of your two 5870s??

I had that setup (video cards only) ended up swapping them out for one 6970, big improvement!

That was done way before rF2 beta came out. But, rF1 runs better with the one 6970 as does iRacing, Aces High II... on and on.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah I tried and it and it did improve things in the beginning before the 12.2 update. After the 12.2 update I tried xfire and saw improvements so I ve kept them on. I know what your saying about xfire supported games though I just can't justify buying anything else for a long long time

In my opinion Rf2 physics and FFB are better than iracing. RF2 is more fun to drive.

But racing against other player is in iracing much more better, because its better organised.

Ye it's a bit of a double edged sword but you're basicly right, the driving part overall feels alot... crisper and natural in rf2 while at the moment, I prefer the overall esthetics of the graphics (not talking about trackside objects, weather effects, etc) and online system of iRacing.
Once the performance levels in rF2 have increased and I can start enabling HDR & FXAA on my eyefinity setup I'm sure it will come closer, but with those options it disabled it looks a bit bland still.

Are these 12.3 any better for 6series cards or are they more for 7series optimizations?

Who CARES?!!!! The OP is a good post as those pre certified drivers really helped me get ALOT of FPS. Don't derail an otherwise good thread!

    AMD Catalyst 12.x 8.96 14 February

    DISCLAIMER:
I consider this driver is still in "early alpha stage", and it contains mainly minor update in Direct3D and OpenGL driver. So use it at your own risk. Personally I haven't try this driver, and I'm still using the 12.3 pre-WHQL version.
    DISCLAIMER UPDATE:
Finally install this driver and found no problem at all! But of course, your mileage may vary. You can read my report on post-installation.
This is the first AMD Catalyst Package from the 8.96 branch of drivers. For Windows Vista an 7 32 and 64-bit

    Driver Packaging Version: 8.96-120214a-133521E-ATI 2D

    Driver Version: 8.01.01.1240
    Direct3D Version: 7.14.10.0899
    OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.11615
    Catalyst Control Center Version: 2012.0214.2012.36147

Below is the Positive and Negative list I compiled based on user's post in Guru3D forum.

    POSITIVE
    - in general users agreed that this driver is more stable and frame-rates improved
    - Alan Wake improved performance, Catalyst Control Center works, ATI Tray Tools works, overclocking works (ATI 5870)
    - Better performance in BF3 crossfire (ATI 5970)
    - Crossfire works perfectly in BF3 (ATI 6850)
    - seems to resolve blocking in Skyrim with AA turned on (ATI 6870)
    - a bit better performance in SWTOR (ATI 6870)
    - more stable in Battlefield 3 (random crash is gone, ATI 6870)
    - no more occasional freeze when playing video on second monitor via HDMI which happened with 12.3 driver (ATI 6950/70)
    - higher frame-rates in Battlefield 3 (ATI 6970)
    - higher 3DMark point, Skyrim is smooth as butter (ATI 6950)
    - Crossfire in Alan Wake works perfectly, quad buffer enabled (ATI 6990)

    NEGATIVE
    - in general, users reported two issues: overclocking tools stop working and clock stays in 3D mode, but seems to happen in cards higher than 5xxx only
    - Clock stays in 3D mode for too long, although it will drop to 2D mode eventually (ATI 5970)
    - TrackIR crashed (ATI 6850)
    - Clock stays in 3D mode while idle (ATI 6850, 6950/70)
    - CCC wont start (ATI 6950)
    - Controlling clock and voltage via 3rd party app not working anymore (ATI 6720, 6950/70)
    - Crossfire in Skyrim still not working properly, causing menu/face flickering (ATI 6970)
    - No transparent water (black again) in Team Fortress 2 (ATI 6970)
    - Second cards are stuck in 3D mode while first card is working normally (ATI 7970)
    - Alan Wake with Crossfire still not working (ATI 7970)

These new beta 8.96 are fantastic in rF2 for me, I had a big jump in fps, I was getting max of 76, now in some parts of spa I'm up to 106. I am running max settings at 1920x1200x32, well all max except, mirrors off, but now turn mirrors on still get upto 86fps (mirrors still seem to cost about 20fps)

plus on GPU-Z I have non of those negative problems listed above, so even better

Is the stuttering gone in crossfire mode too!?

  19. #19
it all felt sooth last night i have never had such an increase in performance before from a driver but it looks like these drivers really do have a good impact on crossfireX would like to see if others are getting the same results as me and also see how it effects just single gpu too.?
