that would be impressive but will have to wait yet but ... why not?
Power? If you mean CPU Cycles I am sure even a modest 4 core can handle a static area of outerra and the physics interactions of a sim racing engine.
TDU would be a waste. Having arcade physics and the entire world is the same as perfectly realistic physics and no freedom at all. The buildings and realtime shadows will not kill the performance considering the engine is not being designed to stay empty and incomplete forever.
I know it is very difficult to incorporate into rfactor, but this is awesome, this made with Real-Time Rendering and Animation of Trees.
Animated trees would be awesome. Like this but more relevant to racing purposes.
The Moon will be a real body; for one thing we want to have the possibility to go from one planet to another, and secondly it would be actually simpler for us to handle it as a body rather than faking it. As a body in a proper orbit it would render the moon phases correctly, I really don't even want to imagine how we would go around faking it smile
Same with rendering the sun outside of atmosphere.
Otherwise there should not be any performance problems with all planets in the solar system, LOD on the planet is quite effective. And yes, the traveling would be seamless. Real distances, no reason to do anything else.

Hrm. Racing rally cars on the moon is something never discussed on these forums.
impressive trees... think it will be a while before this. Car physics on and off the track need to be solid first![]()

I'm wondering how this engine gets the levels (Z). To obtain accurate level values is very difficult, e.g. the current GPS system (good for XY but very inaccurate for Z). Fractal methods sound bit “magical” or as getting values from nothing. However, it looks like a revolutionary engine.
A bit of a bump but development has progressed and this has been implemented in alpha form. Don't believe it is animated yet.

Isn't it impressive as well as those?

It's also very nice, I can't wait to the new ingame screenshot/video from rf2. (rain and changing weather)
well ... next add to that leaves the motion induced by the airflow generated by the cars and it is ... perfect!
Very interesting project!
Some sunset pictures I think are worth the thread bump.
I want to race in that lighting. Make it happen ISI

Holy s*it. I'm imagining that lighting at Sebring during race....a dream.
Easily a dream come true for me. I have been waiting for a game like this all my life, and if this engine's possibilities are what they seem to be, it could change the face of simulations of all kinds forever...

Update to the road generator. It now supports banked curves. http://www.outerra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3857
Even to the extreme!

Regarding this thread, wow .... this is a version of the future that I'd like to try.
I fly Sims and quality of terrain is so important to the immersion. I'm talking FSX and realism here and not just IL2 [love that too].
Looks impressive! interesting thread.
ISI, may well gain some input here which may be taken on board.
It's all good!
Great minds think a like ...
